week 2 of school

So we are coming to the end of our second week of our second year of PT school and let me tell you, I need the break. Classes are what i expected, tough but enjoyable. CardioPulmonary, basically it is what the name implies everything to do with the heart and lungs. I really enjoy this class, it will be one of our harder classes but I actually like it. Very interesting stuff. Then orthopedics is brutal. Having it ONE day from 8-5 is a killer. But each week we cover about 5 chapters or 200 pages of reading so it takes up some time. Then neuro.. its fun we do all the tests and evals. So basically testing the cranial nerves (eye movement, balance, ect ect.) Lots of lab time doing random exercises and balance things. Makes you look at life and the ability to do seemingly normal tasks in a whole new light. You dont realize how much is involved in the simple task of going from sitting to standing until you have taken the time to analyze every single action involved.

Well thats all I got for now!

week 4 garden update

A sad turn of events for my beloved garden…. sigh. Well we had a short heat wave this past week which wiped out the majority of my garden.  The seedlings were about 3 weeks too young to handle the head, especially the cucumbers and lettuce. So I was forced to replant them, but i am starting them inside for the first 5 weeks which should be long enough.

Also my tomatoes succumbed to the heat as well, but for those I have no decided to just buy the plants instead of trying to grow them from seeds. My aunt told me she had never been able to grow them from seeds, so I went out yesterday and picked up a hybrid that is perfect for small containers and I will update with photos next week.

So yeah pretty shitty I know! Anyways i go back to school on Monday…. sigh. Tonya is in Hawaii for her late brothers memorial service at his former post. She left yesterday and now its just me here alone till Jack moves in sometime within the next few day.

I finished reading my second book of the break. No, nothing school related. I finished A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. It was very good. An eye opener and very descriptive. It’s the life story of the author Ishmael. Very good read, I highly recommend it! The second book was The Catcher in the Rye. Not a big fan I’ll be honest. I don’t really understand why this book is so highly regarded, but overall it was a good read

i can see the light

Been a little while since my last real update, school has been busy. Not hard, just busy. I had 4 presentations due all around the same time with a few exams thrown in the mix as well. I had 2 finals on Friday and I feel pretty confidant on both. Well my physical agents one, I know my grade so if I did all the calculations correctly I should have an A. As for Biomechanics, well its a crapshoot between and A or a B. So we shall see.

Tomorrow I have neuro and differential diagnosis. Yikes! Neuro so far has been a series of take home exams with our teacher not really grading us. So our final grade rests on our performance tomorrow. I feel pretty food about it, but who knows. Differential diagnosis should be pretty easy, we know most of what is on our test.

The Tuesday, my hardest day. First its therapeutic exercise, he teaches us so much stuff we have no idea what to study. Then…. pharm, bla! Enough said there.

There is my mini update and then come thursday afternoon….. FREEDOM!!!

Saturday night perfect night to…… study some neuro

that is a bit of my neuro stuff. The colored pencils and highlighters are for the numerous nerve tracts I must draw. Fun fun fun.

On a different note, the weather has been pretty shitty. I went to the gym in the morning and then it started to rain right after I got home. And that has been my day. NOTHING! I have just been going over neuro all day with intermittent breaks. Now Rambo 2 is on and that i think is how I will spend my night.

schools back in session….arrrgh

Been back in school for almost a week. Well basically we had 1 class on Thursday and then nothing on Monday and now today we only had one class, why waste our time? It was 22 degrees outside today and I DID NOT want to go outside.

Bah! Anyways I really am starting to appreciate the little things in life, such as a day in the mid to high 40s vs a day in the low 20s. Yes they are both significantly lower than the average low for Phoenix but there definitely is a big difference in it. BIG DIFFERENCE INDEED!

I found one of the greatest online fitness tools ever! Gyminee is amazing! It lets you track your food intake and breaks it down into carbs, protein, and fat. Then it has the fitness section and lets you track your workouts. The best part though is its social networking. It gives you the ability to find people who share similar goals be it weight loss or doing 100 push ups and it lets you share your experiences.  All in all a very cool web 2.0 site.
